TIDE Improved Biomass Cooking Stoves

TIDE aims to improve the efficiency of cooking stoves, and reduce the need for biomass fuel, and its resultant emissions.

TIDE designs improved stoves tailored to the needs of different consumers. Most designs include the same features: improved internal geometry to maximize heat transfer and minimize heat loss, better internal insulation, and chimney to take pollution away from the user's surroundings.

Innovations include:

• Improved stoves designed specifically for rice puff units to streamline the puffing process of rice.
• Biomass-based dryers for efficiently drying vegetables, fruits, and fishes, coupled with training on standard packaging of the dried products.
• Piggery stoves designed for small-scale piggeries for making pig feed.
• PYRO brand of fuel - efficient cook stoves such as Pyro Tawa stove for small roadside eateries and Pyro Bakery ovens tailored for small bakeries.

We do not just disseminate cookstoves. We train local entrepreneurs, especially women in cookstove construction. By doing so, we layer our strategy with the additional dimension of sustainable livelihoods and financial stability.

We raise awareness about the harmful consequences of inefficient cookstoves by holding extensive training and community meetings. Through demonstrations and testimonials, we encourage families to switch to clean cookstoves.
