Solution Overview & Benefits

Raaji is designed to empower adolescent girls and women by answering sensitive questions about menstruation, hygiene, and reproductive health with respect and privacy. It blends AI with human-expert oversight—alerting experts like psychologists or doctors when urgent or complex issues arise—making it a trusted, stigma-free source of information. The chatbot has been deployed in rural schools and community centers where conversation around these topics is typically taboo, enabling girls to learn with dignity and confidence.

Benefits / Key Features:

  • AI-enabled, anonymous dialogue about reproductive health
  • Available 24/7 in local languages, including Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Pashto, and English
  • Triggers human expert intervention in emergencies or sensitive cases
  • Recognized globally: Winner of the 2018 World Summit Award for Learning & Education
  • Used in five low-income schools and three rural community centers in Sindh, benefiting over 15,000 girls and women
History & Development

Founded in 2019 by Saba Khalid in Karachi, Aurat Raaj developed Raaji by integrating local cultural insights with technology. The chatbot was piloted in Pakistani rural settlements and low-income schools, where it has had profound impact in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging community dialogue.
