Solution Overview & Benefits
Synnefa’s smart greenhouses combine sturdy structures with solar-powered FarmShield IoT sensors that gather real-time data on soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and light. This data is fed into the FarmCloud platform, triggering automatic irrigation and alerts.
Farmers gain up to 60% water savings, 30% higher yields, and 40% lower fertilizer costs through precise, data-driven crop management.
Key benefits include:
- Automated irrigation based on real-time weather and soil data.
- Reduced water usage through drip irrigation systems.
- Increased yields due to optimized growing conditions.
- Solar-powered system enables off-grid operation in rural areas.
- Remote monitoring and control through a connected mobile platform.
History & Development
Founded in 2013 by Taita Ngetich in Nairobi, Synnefa collaborated with local engineers and farmers to pilot its first greenhouse. Since then, over 1,300 smart greenhouses have been deployed across East Africa, benefiting more than 11,000 farmers.
