Solvatten is a combined solar water heater and a water purifier that produces safe and warm water by using solar energy.
Put Solvatten in a sunny place and the water will be safe and ready to use in 2-6 hours. An indicator shows clearly when it is safe to drink.
- The device inactivates micro-organisms that cause diarrhoea and diseases, producing water which meets the WHO’s Guidelines for Safe Water.
- Minimum exposure to the sun is 2 hours (tropical weather).
- An indicator will show a red sad face when the water is not treated and a green happy face when it is safe to use.
- The maximum daily capacity is 40 liters/day.
- Solvatten treats and heats 5-10.000 liter of water a year under sunny conditions.
- Solvatten treats and heats 42-100.000 liter of water during its lifespan of a minimum of 7 years if it is used right and taken care of.
History & Development
Solvatten is a social enterprise based in Sweden, and have one mission: To provide people living in developing countries with safe and hot water in a portable, environmentally-friendly way.
Solvatten is the brainchild of a Swedish inventor, Petra Wadström, and the Solvatten story began in Australia in the early 90s, where Petra was living with her husband Carl and their family. Wadström’s professional background was diverse, spanning both medical science and the arts, which helped spark the creative thinking behind Solvatten.
