Leafbed Emergency Bed
Leaf Supply
Solution Overview & Benefits
Leafbed is a modular emergency bed made entirely of cardboard. The identical modules can make an ergonomic adult bed, a child's bed or a stool. The beds can be shipped flat and are recyclable and biodegradable. They are intended to be used in situations where a large number of temporary beds are required quickly.
An adaptable design, The LeafBed is assembled from 4 identical modules that can have alternative uses:
- 4 modules for an adult bed
- 3 modules for kid bed
- 2 modules for a small table
- 1 module for a stool
- A compartment on each module allows user to secure belongings inside the bed while sleeping.
An efficient product, The LeafBed has been designed to be ergonomic and adaptable while using only a very simple and basic material.
Contrary to popular belief, cardboard is very resistant. The LeafBed can support up to 300kg and face a very high hygrometry (up to 75 % of relative humidity in the atmosphere).
Biodegradable and recyclable, has a positive carbon balance contrary to classical bedding solutions.
History & Development
The bed was conceived by the designers who founded Leaf Supply. They have partnered with paper manufacturer Smurfit Kappa for production and are willing to work with local producers worldwide.
It was during an entrepreneurship course at ESCP Europe that Julien Sylvain and the designers of NOCC met. Working on evolving cardboard furniture, Juan Pablo and Jean-Christophe had the idea of creating a "cardboard furniture kit for emergency situations". Ten pre-cut cardboard boards, contained in a simple bag, which in the blink of an eye are transformed into essential furniture.
