In response to the widespread problem of sexual violence, invi world has developed a self-defense product that enables women to protect themselves.
The invi bracelet contains a breakable capsule filled with an unpleasant odoriferous substance to repel the attacker.
The effectiveness of the innovation has been demonstrated as it already prevented multiple attempted assaults (or attempted rape).
Once the capsule in the bracelet is broken by the victim, the smell is released which aims to repel the attacker in a non-violent way. This is the same mechanism used by a skunk as protection from predators.
History & Development
In 2014, founder Roel van der Kamp got concerned after reading a study about the prevalence of sexual violence. Through personal stories, which often remain hidden behind the statistics, he and his team learned all too well about the devastating impact it can have on people’s lives. It motivated them to find new ways of protection. Three years of R&D resulted in the world’s first and only self-defense bracelets based on scents.
According to UN Women (2008), one of the seven causes of violence against women is due to a ‘lack of protection’.
