Butterfly iQ+
Butterfly

Solution Overview & Benefits
The Butterfly iQ+ is a portable, all-in-one ultrasound system designed to bring diagnostic imaging to places where traditional ultrasound machines are too expensive or impractical. Shaped like an electric razor, the probe fits in your hand and connects to a mobile phone or tablet via a cable. With a single probe and Butterfly’s patented Ultrasound-on-Chip™ technology, it can scan the entire body — from heart and lungs to abdomen and pregnancy assessments — using 20+ presets.
Built for tough environments, the iQ+ is water- and dust-resistant, and can be used in hot, humid, or rugged conditions. Its AI-assisted tools make it easier for frontline health workers to perform and interpret scans. It can store images offline and sync them when an internet connection is available — helping remote clinics work without interruption.
This device helps clinicians detect health problems earlier, make better decisions, and reduce the need for travel or referrals, ultimately improving patient outcomes in low-resource communities.
History & Development
The Butterfly iQ+ is the second generation of the world’s first handheld, single-probe ultrasound. Created by Butterfly Network, a health-tech company based in Massachusetts, the device was designed to close the imaging gap faced by over 4 billion people globally. Since its launch, the iQ+ has been used in over 100 countries and in every kind of setting — from hospitals and ambulances to refugee camps and rural clinics.
