WePower Solar Fishing Lantern
WeTu by Siemens Stiftung

Solution Overview & Benefits
The WePower Solar Fishing Lantern, developed by Kenyan company Wetu, is an innovative clean energy solution tailored to the needs of small-scale and artisanal fishermen. Traditionally, fishermen in regions like Lake Victoria rely on kerosene lamps, which are expensive, polluting, and hazardous. The WePower lantern offers a reliable, solar-charged alternative that supports sustainable fishing practices and protects both human health and the environment.
Key Benefits:
- Cost savings: Eliminates the recurring cost of kerosene.
- Bright, long-lasting light: Allows effective night fishing with over 10 hours of bright LED light.
- Improved safety: Reduces fire risks and exposure to toxic fumes.
- Climate-friendly: Helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuel lighting.
- Durability: Rugged design suitable for harsh, wet fishing environments.
- Economic impact: Allows fishermen to reinvest savings from fuel into other needs.
