Solution Overview & Benefits

Awaaz‑e‑Sehat empowers maternal health workers—especially those in rural or busy clinics—by allowing them to speak into an app instead of typing. The AI converts their Urdu audio into structured electronic health records (EHRs) and provides real-time guidance based on patient responses, helping to catch warning signs of pregnancy complications like high blood pressure or gestational diabetes. This tool saves time, ensures accurate record-keeping, and supports better patient outcomes

History & Development

Developed in 2023 by Maryam Mustafa and her team at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Awaaz‑e‑Sehat was funded by a Grand Challenges AI grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Piloted at Shalamar Hospital starting October 2023, it has already collected data from over 500 patients and is showing strong early impact in identifying high-risk signs.

Availability
  • Available: Piloted in Lahore, Pakistan with plans to scale to Punjab region
    • Deployment: Currently used by maternal health workers at Shalamar Hospital
    • Trial Data: 500+ patient records collected; improved risk detection compared to standard care
