Zor
Zor

Solution Overview & Benefits
Zor is building a distributed battery network to support off-grid farmers with clean, reliable energy access, especially for irrigation. By combining solar charging hubs with decentralized battery sharing, Zor allows rural farmers to rent fully charged batteries for their agricultural needs. This approach reduces dependence on expensive and polluting diesel pumps while enabling efficient irrigation and other energy-intensive tasks. The system is designed for scalability and affordability, offering a pay-as-you-go model that ensures accessibility for smallholder farmers.
Key benefits include:
- Clean energy access in off-grid rural areas
- Supports irrigation and productive use of energy
- Pay-as-you-go model makes it affordable for low-income users
- Helps reduce reliance on diesel fuel and cut carbon emissions
- Increases crop yields through consistent irrigation access
History & Development
Zor was founded by a team of Harvard alumni and innovators passionate about expanding clean energy access in underserved regions. The idea grew out of their observation that rural farmers often lack access to the electricity needed to irrigate their land, limiting food production and livelihoods. With support from the Harvard Innovation Labs, the team developed a battery-sharing model powered by centralized solar hubs. Their field research and pilot programs have focused on user affordability, technical feasibility, and scaling infrastructure in regions that lack grid access.
