Mozambike
Mozambikes

Solution Overview & Benefits
Mozambikes aims to provide affordable and customized bicycles to people in rural Mozambique.
Bicycles are a highly efficient form of transportation that has a strong impact on Mozambique's economy and environment. Bicycles are not just a means of transportation - they facilitate access to healthcare, clean water, schools and jobs for millions of Mozambicans in rural areas. They also give people greater independence and reduce vulnerability to rising fuel costs.
The unique advantage of Mozambikes lies in its model of bicycle sales to provide bicycles of higher quality and lower prices to all provinces in Mozambique.
All of the bicycles are built by local workers, and may carry advertisement or logos of local companies. This helps drive down costs for the consumer, who pays 999 Meticais (~36 USD) for a new bike.
History & Development
Mozambikes is a social enterprise that believes in the power of bicycles to transform lives. Founded in 2010 by Rui Mesquita and Lauren Thomas, Mozambikes aims to provide affordable and customized bicycles to people in rural Mozambique, improving their mobility, access to education, health care, markets, and income opportunities.
Mozambikes also works with donors and partners to sponsor and distribute bicycles to various groups and individuals in need, such as students, health workers, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
